What is round wire nails?
Round iron wire nails are common construction fasteners made from drawn low carbon steel wire(Q195/Q235) featuring a bright smooth shank, diamond point, and flat or round head. Available in various lengths (1"-6") and gauges (6-20#), the versatile wire common nails come in bright, polished, or galvanized finishes. Designed for general construction, woodworking, and furniture assembly, the common wire nails offer consistent strength, good holding power, and easy driving capability at a cost-effective price point.
Surface treatment of bright wire nails
Hot-dipped galvanized
Surface Preparation: Grease and rust are removed through mechanical cleaning (such as wire brushing for light rust) and chemical cleaning methods.
Hot - dip Galvanizing: The common iron nails are then immersed in a molten zinc bath maintained at a temperature of around 450 - 460°C. As the iron wire nails are immersed, the iron reacts with the molten zinc. A series of zinc - iron alloy layers are first formed on the surface of the iron nail, followed by a layer of pure zinc. The reaction between iron and zinc is a complex diffusion - controlled process. The immersion time is typically a few minutes to ensure an adequate thickness(50-280g/m2) of the zinc coating.
Cooling and Finishing: After hot - dip galvanizing, the common iron nails are removed from the zinc bath and cooled. The wire nails can be air - cooled or water - cooled, depending on the requirements. Excess zinc may be removed by shaking or other mechanical means to achieve a more uniform coating.
Electro-galvanized
Pretreatment: The first step is to thoroughly clean the iron wire nails. Degreasing is essential to remove any oils or lubricants that may be present on the surface from the manufacturing process. This is usually done using alkaline detergents. After degreasing, pickling is carried out.
Electroplating: The pretreated iron wire nails are then placed in a galvanizing bath, which contains zinc salts in solution. The wire nails are connected as the cathode, and a zinc anode is used. When a direct current is applied, zinc ions in the solution are attracted to the cathode (the wire nails) and are reduced to metallic zinc, which deposits on the surface of the iron wire nails. The thickness(15-38g/m2) of the zinc coating can be controlled by adjusting the current density and the plating time.
Post - treatment: After electro - galvanizing, the iron wire nails are rinsed with clean water to remove any residual electrolyte. Then, a passivation process may be carried out. Passivation involves immersing the galvanized nails in a chromate - based passivation solution. This forms a thin, protective film on the zinc coating, enhancing its corrosion - resistance. The passivation film helps to prevent the zinc from reacting too quickly with the environment.
Mechanical Polishing
This involves using abrasive materials such as grinding wheels or abrasive belts to remove surface irregularities. The iron wire nails are passed through a polishing machine where the abrasive surface rotates and rubs against the wire nails to smoothen the surface. Different grits of abrasive materials can be used depending on the desired level of smoothness. For a high - gloss finish, finer grits are used towards the end of the polishing process.

Galvanized common wire nails benefits
Suitability for Harsh Environments: Whether it's a construction project in a coastal area with high humidity and salt content in the air, or an outdoor wooden structure exposed to rain and snow, galvanized common wire nails can withstand such harsh conditions better than uncoated iron nails. The resistance to corrosion ensures the structural integrity of the assembled components over time.
Bright and Uniform Appearance: Galvanized iron wire nails have a clean, shiny, and consistent silver color that can enhance the overall visual appeal of a project. This is particularly important in applications where the iron wire nails are visible, such as in furniture making, decorative woodworking, or certain architectural details. The bright finish of galvanized wire nails can provide a more finished and professional look compared to dull or rusted uncoated wood nails.
Load-Bearing Capacity: Galvanized common iron wire nails are typically made from high-quality low-carbon steel wire, which provides good tensile strength. This enables the wire nails to bear significant loads without bending or breaking easily. Whether used in framing, flooring, or other structural applications, the common iron wire nails offer reliable support and help maintain the integrity of the construction.
